I grew up in a house with a ham as my late Dad, whose c/s I recently granted.. The basement of our first house was packed with Command Sets. He had been part of the OSS crew in Kunming who operated the company radio station. So I grew up in a heavily radio-centric setting focused on military comm gear. I acquired a APR-4 with tuning units, several APX-6s, etc.
I was first licensed as a ham in 1960 - CW only, one year & non-renewable. But hundreds of QSOs made sure that I still remember the code.
After a 19-year lapse, I moved to PA & got recently re-involved with amateur radio. I traded my random call for W2INF, which is a 'cool' call & great on CW.
I have been interested over the years in collecting military stuff. I owned a Korean War-vintage IR Sniperscope that worked as intended. The Vietnam War produced a lot of neat stuff like the USQ-42 & the RT-524 series. I had the issue retrans cable & had a PRC-25 on Ft Hood Range Control (30.45) hooked to a -77.
I currently operate on 50.125USB & 146.52FM.
My current interest is in adding a URC-104 to my station setup. Anyone interested should contact me direct & not here.
