ALCON,
Conditions today were very good with many stations L/C here at Plainview, NY.  Copied Ray (KA3EKH) 5/9 here in Long Island.  I was operating a newly acquired manpack radio, CODAN 2110M, putting 25W into a broadband dipole using battery power (brand new, fully charged).  I would probably get much better results with 25W if I used a dipole cut for the M&S frequency.
The problem I mentioned is that this radio turns off the audio when sound is not detected... so it will turn off the audio (both to the internal loudspeaker and the H-250/U handset) during pauses during a transmission or when one station passes to another.  When it once again detects a transmission, it turns the audio back on.  I've checked the manual and found no reference to squelch function.  I am sure it is just a setting issue or an intentional design feature as opposed to a radio fault as this radio came straight from the factory down under.  My personal preference is for this not to happen.  I think I just need to learn this radio.
