[MRCA] YE Antenna, CV-8 USS Enterprise

The RADAR antenna is too short for it to be an SCR-270. Also would be US Navy issue. There is antenna wire strung between the forward and aft masts on the island - probably for HF use. The British had an early IFF system installed on Spitfires and Seafires that gave the “blip” on the radar scope a different appearance than those without the IFF installed. The US Navy adopted this system very early ( before Midway ).

The size of the elements look about right for a SCR-270 and although its pure speculation think a lot of those sets were built. The SCR-270 also had provisions for integrating a IFF system and would think it would be a natural for ATC.

The picture shows her radar antenna, and above that, her YE homing beacon antenna.
