Your post made me wonder about the availability of teletype paper. Much to my surprise, a google search found sources to purchase from!http://www.bscsource.com/ProductDetails/NSN1429037-7530001429037-Teletype-Paper-Roll/NSN1429037/p10147904
I vaguely remember from the radio shack "external data storage " days, the cassette used was a higher grade "data cassette" , but I think  a good grade audio cassette would work in a pinch.Their cassette storage system never did work very well, though, as it was only a modified audio cassette machine.

I picked up a UGC-129 teleprinter last week along with all its tape drives and cables and wanted to start playing around with that. Its one of the last ones built with the dot matrix print head.

I need to get a roll of paper for it and it looks to use just a regular roll of 8.5 paper and was wondering is that the same size as regular teletype machines like the model 28? And if anyone has some they want to part with?

Got a case or two of 8.5 Bi -Fold that I will use for testing but need to now locate a roll for using this machine so I can operate with the cover closed.

The other question will be about the tape drives. They appear to use a regular audio cassette tape when looking at the drives but did they use some “Special” tape and not just stock audio cassettes?  Going to speculate that they use regular tapes just converting the digital to audio tones and that in military use would imagine the manufacturer specified you had to use their tapes but somewhat leery of that as a requirement.

The big problem would be if they had been pre recorded with a unique index format or require a special sync track but don’t think these drives are that smart.
