RF Communications (later Harris) RF-301P

This is the "Portable" version of the better known RF-301. Covers 2-15
MHz.  Does either sideband.  Weighs 23 pounds without battery, so you
wouldn't want to hump it too far.

Like the RF-301, it's a hybrid set, transistors with tubes in the
output.  It uses a 4604 driven by a 7906, for 50 Watts PEP or 20 Watts
CW.  Both tube have rapid-heat filaments, so you have to suck an extra
breath after PPT until you have output.

This thing uses  onobtanium Deutch audio connectors.  I managed to beg
one form K4CHE, and built a breakout box to use more common accessories.

12 volts is available on the connector, so I installed a Plessy SL6270
in the box to ensure adequate audio drive.  The is the IC used in the
Transworld TW-100 radios.  It's described as a VOGAD, voice-operate
gain-adjusting device.  I'd used these in another project, and found
them quite effective.  You heard it on the air, so I guess it works.

Just so you know,
Al
