Hi Mark,

As far as batteries go, what do you intend to do with a Torn Fu d2?  
Since it doesn't cover any ham usable frequencies, there's not much you 
can do with it other than demo the receiver.  You could run the 
transmitter into a dummy load and transmit a short distance for a demo.  
This would keep you inside the law.

So, for batteries I would suggest a bunch of 9V batteries to use in 
place of the 80V batteries and some 2V lead acid battery like a gel cel 
for the filaments.   You could also get a dc-dc converter for the 80V 
batteries.  These are available cheap on ebay.

Something like this

If you get these to supply the high voltage you will need to put in a 
shielded box.  They put out tons of noise.   see
