Mites were always considered weak designs. In amateur service they may be ok, but when they were in use they were very unreliable. I cannot dispute their allure, however!

Subject: [MMRCG] UGC-129
Ok, so in a effort to go boldly backwards into the past it appears now that using a computer and MTTY software is no longer adequate for RTTY operations.
A Dovetron TU just showed up and now am thinking what kind of mechanical teleprinter I can pair this with. Had a UGC-74 but got feed up with the weight and the problems with the ribbon not being readable, tried new ribbons and everything but they were also dried out and was not able to see them like I wanted to.
So the idea now is to obtain something small in the way of a teleprinter like a UGC-129 or one of the Mite teleprinters. Have options on large machines like model 28 teleprinters but don’t think I have the floor space right now. Anybody have anything they want to get rid of?
