Results of today’s yard net. Beautiful weather today, set up the mutt in the yard around 100 ft from the detached garage. I did a different configuration today with two V antennas supported by 24 foot of mast secured to the mutt. One V cut for 7.29 that ran north to south with the idea that it would favor east west for MMRCG net and a second V cut for 5.4 running east to west to favor N&S net. Don’t know that it makes a difference but wanted to try and also by doing this the mast has four guy points.

Operated the GRC-106 for both nets.

MMRCG was interesting being was barley able to copy net control K4HV did copy Joe W4VAG and his low power stuff that somehow always gets thru. Solid copy of W4OSS, KN4HH, KC5IJD and KM4V. K9WT always comes booming in and appreciate times he doubled as net control being he always hears everyone.

The 106 did a good job in fake AM mode and everyone was dead on frequency and that’s an issue with the 106 being it still receives in USB in the AM mode so if other station is off frequency you get a heterodyne.

M&S net was strong all around with good copy on all stations; I must be in one of those weird locations that favors 60 meters, thought for a minute of jumping in and doing net control but KW1I did a great job as usual. Had one point where some digital crap came in on top of us but after one course it went away.

Have the entire set up down to less then a hour to set everything up in the yard and also had the opportunity that you never get in the field to go in and listen to the fixed station with the Harris 350 and fixed antennas and did not notice any real difference to what I was getting outside with the portable set up.

I have a weird box that came from Ft. Monmouth that allows cross band operation from VHF to HF using the VRC-12 set up and the 106 and may start putting together the cables for that and try doing the nets with a PRC-68 Working from the yard allows you to come in and hear how that lash up would sound, just don’t know if its intended to be bidirectional or if it just goes one way. I will have to build up the cables to find out. The idea of having a PRC-68 that puts out 200 watts of side band is appealing, also gets you away from the blower noise of the 106
