We visited Long Island this weekend to see my former residence in Patchogue.
On the way home on Monday we visited the Fire island Lighthouse.
I recall seeing a picture of a Coast Guard transmitter adjacent to the lighthouse in one of my old nautical charts. See the first picture. The building shown in the bottom right of the picture is still these and is the headquarters of the National park Service. The building was not open to the public but a ranger mentioned these was a large transmitter in the building.
I peered into a window and took some picture of the back of a transmitter. See the second picture.
Does anyone know the history of this Coast Guard station? I've heard that it was used during the Bay of Pigs invasion but would like to confirm this rumor.
