[MRCA] need help with connector compatibility

I hate putting together modern connectors. I think the MS3116J family of connectors are different from the MS3476L, not the least of that is that the L family are silver or nickel plated and the J family are green.
The shell size of 14 is the same and the number of contacts and the contact pattern for a 19 conductor will be the same but one thing I have learned is trying to mix and match is always an issue.
You can download or go to the Amphenol web site and they have a huge book where you can look up a connector and it will give the mating connector and the body parts. Also beware Glenair connectors use a different size for the back shell and extenders so the number will look correct but they are way different.

Subject: [MMRCG] need help with connector compatibility

Hi friends.

I am having a devil of a time decoding the complexities of the amphenol circular connector world. I have a device that has a connector with the following designation:
MS 3116 J 14-19P (spaces added for readability).

I have located a potentially mating connector that has the correct 14-19S connector arrangement but I can't figure out if the shells are compatible. The connector I am considering is designated as:
MS 3476 L 14-19S.

I am having a dickens of a time determining of 3476L is compatible with 3116J
And before I am recommended to contact Bill P., this is actually a full cable I am looking at not just a connector (and yes, I am sure Bill could answer the question but he can be hard to get ahold of).

Any assistance appreciated!
Thanks
