Nicely done Eugene,

I did something not dissimilar when I needed a vehicle mount for a VRC-83.

The right power tools and someone who can weld are invaluable.

Subject: [MRCA] Vehicular Mount for RF-5034 400W AMp

Hi friends,

As many of you may know, the intended vehicular mount for the 400W
RF-5034/5834 amp is completely unobtainium. The closest one can get is the
mount for the RF-382A coupler, known as the RF-384VM-03 mount (see below).

As you can see in the photo (at the bottom of this email), three sides of
this mount have a lip. The lips on the long sides, prevent the amp from
setting down into it such that the lip on the short side (rear) can hold the
amp.

On the advice of others on the list, I took one of these coupler mounts and
had a local welding shop take a bandsaw and remove the side lips.

You can see the results here:

here you can see the rear of the amp now sitting properly in the rear lip:

and the front clasp fitting perfectly.

I dropped off the mount to the welder yesterday and he told me to come back
this morning. I didn't even ask the cost. When I picked it up this morning,
I asked how much and he said "$5" Five bucks! Amazing!

None of this was my idea, but I thought I'd share it for others to see how
well it works. I will put some primer on the edges and some carc-ish paint
to protect the bare metal.
