Gang,
Some of our collections include clandestine radios, and agent sets of
various sorts, generally referred to as spy radios. The CIA RS-1, a.k.a.
AN/GRC-109, is a classic example. These radios are generally QRP and CW
only which makes it difficult to actually use them, especially if you
are Morse challenged as I am.
The agent generally sends his reports blindly, on a specific frequency,
at a specific time..So, normal QSO’s just don’t happen.The receiver is
used to copy numbers stations or other forms of communication from
headquarters.
One way transmissions, broadcasts, are frowned upon on the ham bands
with a couple of exceptions. So, in order to blow the cobwebs out of some
of these radios, I’m going to run some code practice transmissions.
I’ve been working on a WWII agent set for one of our friends.I’ll put it
on the air tomorrow, Saturday, 19 Oct 2019, at 10AM EDT, on 35700.3
KHz.Message will be repeated on 3570.3 KHz at 10:15 for those in close
to the NYC area (NVIS) .
Copy the message to learn about this interesting and historic radio. It
will be machine sent code at 12 WPM, so software decoders should do the
trick. You might also want to record the transmission.
