I've been working on a BC-659 WWII FM set and have the receiver on "life support" power. I picked a couple of crystals out of the front row of the CS-137 crystal case and one was marked FREQ-KC 5700 CHANNEL 271 with 271 marked on the top and plugged it into the "A" position on the set and then "A" was selected on the set. Then I thought I could hear strange signals that were very weak and it seemed odd as a antenna was not connected to the set. I then attached my trusty Operations Center long wire and signals starting coming in and I then proceeded to peak the receiver stage trimmers. However the stations could not be identified and it appears they were just a mass of stations all transmitting at the same time. No voice or CW identifiers could be made out and the remarks made by the station operators did not make any sense-it sounded like the English language but hard to identify the remarks by the operators. Mystery FM signals on 5700 Kc?

Here is a link to the audio and a photo of the 5700 CHANNEL crystal is attached.
