I received the replacement 1 MEG switch from ebay, the body was the same
size, the threads and shaft were a bit longer than the original. I used a
dremel cutoff wheel and carefully scored around the threads then carefully
snapped off the extra threads then cut the shaft to length. Soldered in
the new part, re attached the knob(2 set screws)and applied power and now I
have a working volume control. Next off to the machine shop to make a
battery adapter. Still waiting for a quote on the crystal.

Old switch dumped it's guts when I pulled it out, it was toast.
