[MRCA] FS AS-2259 Antenna Base 1995AA

A couple more items regarding the AS-2259 and similar:

The as-designed AS-2259 has two crossed inverted Vee antenna wire sets that are resonant at approx. 6 and 9 Mc. Accordingly, this configuration will need a matching circuit of some kind at its base for Ham use, as Breck advises at the link below.

I wanted to use a similar inv Vee system for EmComm NVIS work, but my FT-857D didn't include a tuner and I didn't want to buy one. So I redesigned the wire lengths to give me resonance in the 75M or 60M or 40 M bands. Through EZNEC and empirical (cut-and-try) work, I found wire lengths that provided low SWR in these bands. I don't have the final wire lengths in front of me but I would be glad to pass them along if anyone requests.

As for performance, the homebrew version (above) works well on NVIS freqs and my -857D is happy. Some of the folks at MRCA used it a few years ago at our Gilbert meet and also appreciated its effectiveness. My version uses five of the fiberglass tent or camouflage poles that one can find on ePay or elsewhere. The apex ends up at around 19 ft AGL. The 75 M wires are pretty long (55 feet each, IIRC) so you will need more space to operate on that band than with the stock -2259.

We did some testing on the AS-2259 to include matching etc.
