[MRCA] RM-29-A remoted

Technically, those are Signal Corps Orders. Signal Corps Contracts are general (not equipment specific) agreements, either open ended or term limited, to build "stuff" for the Signal Corps. The Navy apparently didn't have such a two-tiered system.

On serial numbers, some Orders specified a range or block of serial numbers. And some started over at "1" each time. That is why most modification references in the Signal Corps manuals specify both an Order Number and a Serial Number when telling when a change appeared.

Strange thing about the RM-29-A and RM-29-B is that the earliest Order that I have a record of is for an RM-29-B in probably July of 1941 (20-CHI-42). That is the only Order that I have ever seen on the -B model. I know of three or four Orders for RM-29-A's, 2514-CHI-42, 8459-PHILA-43, 32903-PHILA-43 and 32905-PHILA-43. It is possible that one of the latter two is a misprint but equally possible that the order was split between two Contractors.

The highest Serial Number that I have recorded is 60715.

Subject: [MRCA] RM-29-A remoted

Just got my hands on two 1943 contract RM-29-A radio remotes. One serial number is in the 6000s, but the other serial number is well below 100 !!! I need a new bell for the one ( the mount attached to the bell is broken ) and the lines and plugs that connect to the radio have been removed ( but the inside of the remotes have not been butchered ), so, new bell for one and new radio cords for both and they should work. The cranks turn freely. Inside these remotes were three , D sized Burgess hearing aid batteries, wired in series, and marked Use before July, 1947. Very minor leakage on the batteries, and no damage done the the insides to the remotes.
