The speaker looks like an LS-7, which was what was issued with the BC-654-A.

It is a wonderful set-up. Only exception I believe is the speaker, HI. The keys are fairly common, but, sometimes missing the cover or are rusted. I am pretty sure I still have a few, although after a 10 day stay at the hospital, my memory has been unfortunately impaired. 73 – Mike

Well you can rest assured that when our MRCA member Dave KB3ELD displays his equipment that the correct key, cables, guy lines, canvas, accessory bags, documentation - - -  all of it is correct.
Dave set up and operated from Ft. Mott last week end . Whew .  .  . One week after doing a  display at Gilbert and yet another operating display and tent  at Ft. Mott. And BTW he has CW skills. My hats off to you Dave.

I have the correct keys for my BC-654rig, and the BC-1306 rig I have. Also got the correct key for the second BC-654 rig that will be put up for sale when it becomes operational. The knee mounted keys are relatively easy to find, but a complete key, with cover for the BC-654 is a bit of a challenge. I do agree, though, about using the correct, issued key with a vintage military set. Makes for a better and more interesting display.

I've got both the key and proper cable for my MSC-37 shelter. I don't dare to use it as it would be painful for all those involved...

If tribute to the military (non-ham) usage of the AN/GRC-106 or -106A has any value, the proper Morse key is the KY-116/U hand key and knee mount (JAN nomenclature for the earlier J-45 key and knee mount).  Both use the very common J-37 key.  The cord that connects between the KY-116/U and the audio connector on the RT-662 or -834 is the CX-1852/U.

It should not be difficult to locate authentic devices.  It's disappointing for any military radio display or operation to unnecessarily substitute ham-style jury rigs.

Ray CW keys are easy to make but  for casual or emergency ops  my favorite is to use a small "leaf" micro switch. The result is a very small key that has enclosed contacts that can't get dirty. Keep one in each radio's accessory bag. Never deploy  from Home Plate  without one. :-)    You probably won't use it for RCC but it will come in handy.

What would you change if given a second chance?Bring a CW key for the GRC-106, although my CW skills are lacking there are others who are proficient. Indeed there are any number of individuals who can perform the Net control, general radio operations and CW way beyond my capabilities and this is one of the events that we can all take advantage of others strengths and capabilities. Thanks again to Walt for doing net control.
