Again, sincere apologies for jamming up the interwebs. I have never posted a photo on any of the lists so I had forgotten about the file size limits on some of them. Duh.

When I get back home I will post them on my website and then send a link (only).

Mea Culpa...

"Plus a TRC-88...

I"m surprised.

The very scarce RT-655/TRC-88 looks almost identical to the very common RT-654/TRC-77, but it transmits both CW and USB. I've heard of only one other than mine (serial number 9) in circulation.

--------------------------------------------------------
Hi Mike - Yes, I think the TRC-88 is pretty rare. I am pretty well convinced that only 10 were ever made (by the Signal Corps/Sylvania EDL under a DARPA contract).

The RT uses the same sheet metal, PA tube and receiver RF/Mixer PC board as the TRC-77 but it is otherwise an entirely different radio. Aside from mine (serial #2) and yours (serial # 9) I know of no others in captivity.
(Anyone else?)

I've done some research and a lot of work reviving mine. Since I could not find any crystals on the freq's that I use, especially the transmitter HFO freqs, I decided to build up a pair of circuit boards to replace the crystals with those Epson programmable oscillators.

They do the job and at $4.05 each they are cheap. They operate at 5 VDC and need a logic buffer for channel "selection" but this system works very well. I placed them in the space previously occupied by the 6 RX and 6 TX crystals.

As soon as I get my scanner working again I will include the circuit on my web post about the TRC-88. Take a look here for my work-in-progress:

Hello Everyone,

I had planned to attend the MRCA meet with my Lavoie Labs FR149/USM 159 s/n 666 frequency meter and involve myself in the measuring tests.
Unfortunately I was preempted by some personal business and then the Ottawa (Canada) area was hit by torrential downpours and three tornadoes, which we almost never receive this far North.

That being said, I am looking for the following documentation;

TB 9-6625-2120-35 Calibration Procedure for Frequency Meter, AN/USM-159, AN/USM-159A, AN/USM-159B

Would you have any idea where I can locate either a .pdf or hard copy, which I'll defray expenses for.

Thank You Very Much for your help

Best 73s, Robert, VE3BE

The Sixth annual Able Archer '83 Special event (W3A) quickly approaching. For those unfamiliar with Able Archer '83 it was a ten-day (NATO) communications exercise starting on November 2, 1983, that spanned Western Europe, centered on the Supreme Headquarters Allied Europe Headquarters, Able Archer exercises simulated a period of conflict escalation, culminating in a simulated DEFCON http://secure-web.cisco.com/1WqAxYAzZwGqL0qv_1mj178EEaThaUHw02i15Ac41BJFRFqrA3kzLr4RGybAiPVXl_rqzZCpwGCURNluEy9P4ltIXtOVdYqU3nwvKJtOkBt5XaEaaIFaEIhI6FAFKF1zoES76Q6VTABlif6rzw3QewqbMY_E1StXa300-Y0Knv7ivjcaA2DoWVprKZOSIqJ42blDPcY4na8mt0aYzsq_kEOg4CgNSDlP2gDho-CRE-fLwM-_pKf0NQx9NWVlPNjrO3eUnLAYNDM_wmKHiqaY5ZL7WwyFkEW-efz-wXkEqvHSUsxWYuyhsqPd0A7BVVVdXV2KcMvzopGPHtydY_3qGgRoA9nBsxbu5zLYtYM3vCsAvQF1_rHUmHZjpcMUK3lI_YqUurPgX9G6fPq345Ip1EHfiS_39F4jOmw8c9QbVOnePLOS7QfMRtbY0RgTexISR/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Furl%3Fq%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fen.wikipedia.org%252Fwiki%252FDEFCON%26sa%3DD%26sntz%3D1%26usg%3DAFQjCNE-TYcvdLMfFOV5-2gw158zonOaqA%201%20coordinated%20nuclear%20attack%20http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Furl%3Fq%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fen.wikipedia.org%252Fwiki%252FNuclear_attack%26sa%3DD%26sntz%3D1%26usg%3DAFQjCNESy5-8Mf4hwNqOdPpAaIskSVarCg%20The%20exercise%20also%20introduced%20a%20new%2C%20unique%20format%20of%20coded%20communication%2C%20radio%20silences%2C%20and%20the%20participation%20of%20heads%20of%20government.%20The%20realistic%20nature%20of%20the%201983%20exercise%2C%20coupled%20with%20deteriorating%20relations%20between%20the%20United%20States%20and%20the%20Soviet%20Union%20and%20the%20anticipated%20arrival%20of%20Pershing%20II%20http%3A%2F%2Fwww.

This is known as the 1983 war scare. The 1983 war scare is considered by many historians to be the closest the world has come to nuclear war since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. the threat of nuclear war ended with the conclusion of the exercise on November 11.

This year will see several changes. The primary one is that we will be operating from an authentic cold war site. Ray (KA3EKH) has approached The Anne Arundle Amateur radio club and they will host us in their building. It just so happens their building is the former radar control building for the W-25 Nike/Hercules missile battery that defended Washington, DC from the soviet ICBM's. Although not operational in 1983. W-25 was the showcase Nike site for the east coast and the first to handle both Nike & Hercules Missiles. I have pasted details below and for those who's email programs cant read it I have attached a PDF flyer, feel free to share the information about this event which recognize the sacrifices of our military, signal corps, and members of the clandestine services during this critical time in the history of the cold war.
