Just a reminder about the origin of today's Veterans' Day holiday. It was
at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 when
the armistice was signed, bringing an end to hostilities in World War 1, the
War to End All Wars. The final Treaty of Versailles was signed later the
next year but it was the Armistice that Congress intended to commemorate
when, in 1926, it established Armistice Day as a national holiday. Veterans
groups in 1954 requested the name change to Veterans' Day, as we know the
day today.
Thank you for your service.
