Hello Peter,
You're one of the good guys.  But it isn't just the MVPA.  There are many groups that can really use our help.  Many in organizations not familiar with Amateur Radio have no idea how to get involved legally in the hobby.  They have the means to do it, but have no idea where to go to start.

Part of why I started looking at common Amateur Radio frequencies was an article in one of the MPVA's magazines that mentioned a Battle of the Bulge commemoration in Europe where the local government was gracious enough to open up the "old military frequencies" for use during the event.  I wondered why they needed to do that when quite a few WW2 vintage military radios were fully capable of operating on the Amateur bands, so nothing would need to be  "opened up".  The only thing I could think of was that those running these type events are not familiar with Amateur radio.  I am more than ever convinced this is in fact the case.  If the Amateur Radio  community are able to get together with these reenactor and Military vehicle groups, exciting things are possible.

The way I look at it, as an Amateur Operator, part of what I'm supposed to do is bring those operating outside of the law ( unlicensed) away from this "Dark Side of the Force".  Show then that it's not all that difficult to get a licence, get them a sources not only to get vintage stuff capable of operating on Amateur frequencies, but also where to get their stuff repaired and we're going to get more operators in the our hobby  It's also just the right thing to do.

But I'm preaching to the choir.....

We can let organizations like the MVPA wander around with no idea where to get answers about the legal use of Amateur Radio, or we can lead them to the answers, help them along the way, and maybe get a few more members ourselves. Ham operator are supposed to be about promoting Amateur Radio, so I choose the later
