When I purchased my 74 the data plate was missing and trying to find one
was proving not to be easy. The parts manual only showed a part number, no
NSN assigned to it that I could find. A search of the part number yielded
no results so I decided to try and have one made.
The best option appeared to be the metalphoto process offered by several
companies, prices ranged from $45 to $400 for a one off plate. All they
required was a decent picture and they can re produce one in great detail,
the process has a 20 year outside durability. A few MRCA members were kind
enough to send me pictures of their data plates for the project, it was
interesting to see the different variations and contract number types on
the plates. I was able to find the correct size military spec drive
screws/rivets at Aircraft Spruce, they carry a lot of mil spec hardware.
The plate arrived quickly, only 4 days after the design was approved,
very good service, the detail was amazing, even the Hughes lettering font
was exact. The holes were nicely punched and it also had a thin adhesive
backing applied. The plate installed without issue, the adhesive backing
keeps the plate flat to the surface and less prone to damage. Thank you to
the MRCA members who made this project possible.
