Hi Al,
It is South African and a frequency hopper. That is what the code is for.
Information found on the internet:
----------------
The Grinel TR16 or Milcom 100 is a South African Military Transceiver. It
has a processor board (RCA CDP1802 based?) to "hop" the channel thus
creating secure communication. The first set of thumb wheels sets
frequency from 2MHz to 16MHz and the second set sets the pseudo random
hopping code sequence.
The rig has CW, AM and SSB modes. Nominal output is about 100W, easily
150W using P.A. probably safe to run at 200W.
Supply is AC Mains or 24V, with integral charger.
The ALC on transmit can't be disabled. The rig is thus unsuitable for PSK
as power level is so high. It can do RTTY and SSTV for prolonged periods
if the P.A. has been set to 100W. The ALC system appears to provide some
speech compression too for greater "punch".
It's easy to remove the hopping unit, the thumbwheels then could be
rewired to allow split RX /TX frequencies.
It's a dual Conversion with discrete TTL synthesiser, The dividers are
driven direct by the thumbwheel switches.
