[MRCA] AS-2259 Antenna

Further to Z's references, the -2259 was intended to be operated along with a tuner for the PRC-47. Otherwise, the resonant freqs of the two inverted Vee dipoles is around 6 and 9 MHz. I fabricated my own -2259-like inv Vee NVIS system by using fiberglass camo poles and pairs of resonant dipoles wires cut for 80, 60, 40 and 20 M. I select two bands at a time and install the wire pairs, end insulators and guy ropes just like the -2259. We've proven the success of this design over the past ten years at the annual Gilbert, PA fall MRCA meet.

As for the ground mounted antenna for the BC-654, TM 11-275 shows only a vertical antenna mounted on the insulator on the side of the BC-654, along with counterpoise wires on the ground. There is no antenna component that we would today call an NVIS radiator. So I conclude there never was an NVIS antenna for the BC-654 and the AS-2259 is, to the best of my recollection, a Vietnam-era radiator, used extensively by LLRP chaps.

Mark , we did a lot of testing of the AS-2259 as well as matching circuits.
