So far I have good results with the very expensive 1.5 volt AA non-rechargeable lithium cells. I have them in all really expensive gear and after a couple more alkaline leaks recently am thinking they are worth it for just about anything except disposable toys.

The was a discussion about leaking Duracell batteries a couple of weeks ago. Paul Rako at Elecrtronic Design Magazine posted an article about his experiences and some suggestions from associates:

One recommendation is using Panasonic Alkaline batteries which can be purchased at a good price in quantityfrom distributors such as Mouser or Digi-Key
Does anyone have experience with these Panasonic batteries with regards to leakage? I checked the batteries in my equipment on a rainy Day and found leaking Duracells in a multi-meter. Until I find a leakproof battery I'm removing them from equipment I use occasionally.
