[MRCA] Prc74 backpack

To the best of my knowledge, there was never a rucksack or bag custom
produced for the PRC-74. At its initial fielding in 1964 the M-1956
Load-Carrying Equipment was standard issue, with the plywood pack-board and
the M1952 Rucksack being the primary means to carry loads on the back. In
1967 the Lightweight Rucksack, USGI was introduced and used until its
replacement by the ALICE system in 1973. I’m not clear on how well suited
the M1952 Rucksack or Lightweight Rucksack were to the dimensions of the
PRC-74, the WWII-era Pack-board may have been the preferred solution.

Regardless, there’s no “bespoke” carrying solution for the PRC-74 as
there was for the PRC-25/77. If you’re looking for historical accuracy,
any of the aforementioned options are correct. If you’re looking for
comfort during extended field-use, I think the ALICE system is your best
bet. Both the large and medium-sized ALICE packs will accommodate the ’74
and provide ample storage space for some accessories, but if you just want
to tote the radio, battery-box, handset and whip antenna, an ALICE frame
with the pack-shelf fitted and two cargo straps provides the best access to
the controls and puts the radio on display. IMHO, the ALICE pack is the
best piece of kit that the US Army ever thought it could do without.

     Hope this helps.
