I finally finished replacing the XMIT power switch. It was a real pain but I’m pretty sure I have it wired up correctly. I have a wire labeler and labeled all the wires as I removed them. I performed the basic power off shorts tests and found nothing out of the ordinary. I plan to go through a complete jack to jack and ground analysis before I apply power to it. Before I apply power I plan to replace the 20 amp fuse with a 5 amp fuse just to be safe. I don’t want to blow the wiper off another switch.
In the mean time I have a couple small side projects. They are still PRC-47 related. First I want to see if I can repair the switch with the fried wiper. I have other ceramic wafer switches I can rob for parts. Second I plan to make a more original looking antenna to SO-239 adapter for connecting this thing up to normal antennas. I have been hobbled by not being able to have both radios operating on the bench. I have one safe adapter I made with a 3/8 inch bolt and a phenolic knob I had in my junk box. I need another one for the second radio. I don’t have any nylon on hand so I plan to use a chunk of UHMW I have. I plan to turn a new shaft with 3/8-16 treads on one end, a flange and a 3/8 inch un-threaded shaft for connecting the knob with a roll pin. I plan to make the knob of UHMW as well.
