The last post I made I thought it was April 1st. Silly Me. It was April 5th.
Today I fiddled around with the Transmit power switch S103. It turns out you don’t need to remove the face plate to remove this as the manual says.
Here is how I did it.
Remove the screw that connects the T/R relay to the front ceramic insulator.
Remove the 2 #4 screws with nuts and washers that hold the relay K-101 to the chassis
Remove the two knobs from the transmitter power switch and meter control.
Remove the hex nut that holds the switch to the faceplate.
Remove the hex nut that fastens the OPR TUNE switch S102 to the faceplate
Remove the 3 flat head screws that hold the switch box to the faceplate.
Pull the switch assembly back and out of the hole in the faceplate
Remove the grommets with bundled wires from the edges of the switch box
Move the switch to the side and remove the 2 #4 fasteners with nuts and washers that hold the relay K-102 inside the switch box.
Pull the string that binds the wires to the meter off to slacken them a bit.
Here is where I found another error in the manual:
The Schematic shows S-103 in 3 places on the schematic. They are S-103A rear, S-103B rear & S-103B Front. The labeling for S-103B front and S-103B rear are reversed.
There is a black wire that goes from the actual front side of of S103B lug 10 to lug 7 on Relay K-102. Unsolder this from the relay. If you are more dextrous than I you may be able to perform this operation without removing the mounting screws that hold K-102 in place.
Also, it’s a good idea to remove the white wire with red strip from S103A rear lug 5. I broke lug 5 off with all the fiddling around. No worries, the switch is shot anyway.
I found the S-103B front wiper was burnt off. I don’t know if this happened yesterday or a long time ago. I think it was an earlier failure. it didn’t smell like it was a fresh burnout.
I will rob a switch from the parts radio.
