What Mark is referring to is that the rubber surrounding the spring on the
AB-15 seems to have gotten much stiffer than it was 25-30 years ago when
they were nearly new. I recounted here or somewhere my experience back in the
late 1980s of having a standard 5-section antenna that I tried to install
in an AB-15 literally fall over and hit me on the head as I went back down
the ladder after trying to put one up on the corner of my garage. After some
discussion and trying to flex several AB-15's that I have, that probably
wouldn't happen today. At least not immediately. My guess is that today it
might take it several weeks or months to fall over.
