One more frequency to add to the pot: 29.6 MHz fm ( 10 meter FM Simplex
frequency ) - There will be operational BC-659 radios at Red Ball. They
operate on 29.6 MHz and whatever local frequency used by individual owners as a
talk channel ( locally here in Dutchess County, NY, the talk frequency is
29.1 MHz )

Couple other frequencies to add to the pot:
51.0 FM as a coordination channel
18.157.50 (USB) 18.110 to 18.168 17 meter band not crowded and good for
small antennas!
144.30 AM VHF channel that don’t get a lot of love but have operated
several QSO on it in the past.
Once again I will be dragging out the self-propelled GRC-106 along with
the new addition of an external generator so I won’t to have run the engine
all the time now. Will have provisions for simultaneous operations on 51.0
FM and 5.357 USB and guard those frequencies along with the GRC-106 and
URC-110 free to operate any other frequencies.
Last year set up the mutt in the front far parking lot finding that
somehow the Howell building is in some sort of radio black hole and sixty meters
in particular is whacked back there but everything is clear up at the front
of the fair grounds. Using the AS-2851 Log was able to have solid
communications of 51.0 all up and down the valley but the VHF set suffers from a
small antenna just on the side of the mutt and beyond short contacts have not
done much with 144.3
The 17 meter band has several advantages being not that crowded as 20
meters and only requires small antennas with maybe the biggest issue being only
newer equipment will operate up there. 18.157.5 Is a “Backpack” frequency
somewhat intended for QRP so maybe we can QSY up or down from there?
Do we want to officially declare 3.875 or 3.885 as a channel for operation
this year? Going to assume that 5.357 will still be the primary channel
but want to somewhat settle all this before we all get on site so everyone
has the right antennas and radios.
Additional activities that I have planned for the event include dragging
out a second AN/GRC-106 along with AC power supply all the cables and
everything required to operate the sets with the covers removed and do a “care
and feeding” of the 106 on Saturday along with wanting to do the M&S Net on
Saturday. Is there any desire for me to do schematics and block diagrams for
the 106 or is just having the radio open so everyone can see the turret
spin enough?

Long Range Recon Ops
This activity on Friday afternoon (3:00-5:00) is for many the signature
event of the MRCA Meet. This year we are encouraging participants to bring HF
AM field sets for use on 3875/3885 kHz as well as the SSB radios for HF
use on 75 and 60 meters. Team up with others and erect more than one antenna
and do some directivity, polarization and NVIS experiments.
The following brief information about recommended locations is for your
advance planning. You may want to try a new location this year, or if you are
traveling to the MRCA Meet on Friday afternoon you may want to head
directly to one of these sites before checking in at the fairgrounds.
Use the travel times below and your estimated set up time to get your
station on the air by 3:00 pm. Clicking on the link below will take you to an
aerial view of the site. (You may have to cut and paste the URL into your
browser.)
If you have questions about these sites send mail to the MRCA reflector.
