I watched the movie The Finest Hours over the weekend. It is about the Coast Guard rescue of 32 crewmwn from the SS Pendleton in 1952. The T2 tanker split in half during a Nor'Easter. The bow section sank but the stern stayed afloat. The tanker crew were rescued by a CG crew from the Chatham CG station. The CG crew were awarded the Gold Bravery Medal for this dangerous rescue.

The CG were communicating on what I assume was the 2Mhz AM Marine band since townsperople were listening in to the rescue with shortwave receivers. There were images of various shortwave receivers of the time. I caught a glimpse of National and Hallicrafters receivers and maybe a Zenith Transoceanic.

Has anyone seen the movie and identified the sets?

They also showed a radar display in he CG station. Was that a prop for the display form an actual set of the time.

The movie was melodramatic but an interesting story based on an actual rescue. I recommend seeing it during a stormy night and imagine what it was like on the ocean.
