[MRCA] AN/GRA-6 remote

The TM 11-5820-489-34 that I have for the AN/GRA-6 remote control was released in January 1, 1987 with the GRA-6 set that I have being manufactured in 1984. Looking at the TM it says that it replaces the original TM-5038 for this set that was released in April 1951, is it possible that the GRA-6 was in continues production for all those years? Or was it reintroduced just for use with the AN/GRC-106?
