The TM-115820-489 family of books all date from 1983 to 87 so the AN/GRA -6 family of products were still in production and use around the same time as the AN/GRA-39. I would speculate that the GRA-6 was kept around just for that fact that it would directly support the AN/GRC-106 family of radios. The GRA-39 always appeared to be a newer and better box but maybe the more primitive GRA-6 had its place?
Will have to look and see if I can find production dates on my set.
How long was the BA-414 (45 volt B Battery) available???

Actually, in TM 11-5820-477-12 on AN/GRA-39, AN/GRC-106 is included in the list of operable radio sets. But it isn't included on the drawing showing how to connect GRA-39 to various radio sets. All that it would take is a properly wired adapter cable with U-228/U on one end and U-77/U on the other. And I've decided that I remember seeing that hookup somewhere. But it isn't in TM 11-5820-520-12 on the GRC-106, either. All that the latter includes is how to connect the AN/GRA-6. So I don't know where I saw it.
