It also makes a passable replacement (with socket re-wiring) for a 2A3, when connected as a triode.

The 1619 is similar in characteristics to the 6L6, except it has a direct heated cathode, the 2.5 V filament is instant heating.
It's used in applications where battery power needs to be conserved when the equipment is in stand by, the filament heats up and emits the instant power is applied.

This tube is/was used in the old tank radio sets. I have been under the impression all these years that the tube was a metal 6L6 (6V6?) with a different filament rating. Can someone clarify this for me? I'm converting the tank interphone amp and need to confirm the folklore. Thanks.
