I was all set to put mine there too and had everything lined up ready to go and then I sat in the driver’s seat and realized that far too easily for my liking – my head could go straight back into the sharp corner of the radio set. That was the only reason I backed off mounting it in my own M151, because, as in Ray’s pic – they sure look cool.

Ok, so now I have my AN/GRC-106 stuffed on the back of my M-151A1 jeep and everything wired and ready to go. Along with the radio mount I got the antenna base assembly thrown in and installed it anyway because it looks nice and I just bought the HV cable that runs from the output of the amplifier to the antenna base so although I was thinking of always using a dipole on a push up mast was starting to wonder if I should get the whip antenna assembly for the radio? I would need three MS-116A sections, one MS-117A and one MS-118A to build the complete antenna assembly for the radio but have been told that the radio performs poorly on the whip antenna and past experience with whips have proven that to be the case. But just because I can I am now looking for the five mast sections if anyone has them so I can find out firsthand how bad a whip compares to an inverted V. Looks like Fair radio has them for somewhat reasonable price and may end up going there if no one here can help.
The attached picture is of the radio before I finished the DC primary stuff and the antenna HV line, planning on running the 106 this Saturday for Moose and Squirrel Net and will post picture of operational set up then.
