You guys who might want to give it a try, a small ceramic filter 
(Murata, for example), inserted in the IF chain, does wonders.  Yes, 
there is a slight loss of gain but the receiver doesn't appear to suffer 
any from it.  The thing really does a nice job, afterwards.  One does 
have to tune the IF strip for the filter bandpass of course, but it will 
do it, nicely.  The write-up was in ER a few years ago.
