[MRCA] BC-611 Antenna Plastic Sheath

Hello,
The black plastic sheath around the antenna of my BC-611 has broken
at the bottom. The antenna is no longer in a position to work the on/off
switch.
My question would be, what kind of plastic is this? If it is a
styrene I can use a solvent glue that welds the broken parts. If it is a
Bakelite, i can use a super glue or an epoxy. I am guessing that it is a
thermosetting plastic and the epoxy or super glue is the trick.
The antenna is stressed over a couple of solder lugs of a tube
socket, so it is no wonder the material fatigued after so many years.
"Trimming" the solder lugs might allow the antenna to relax a little and
not break the plastic again.
   What has your experience been?

Thanks,
             Bill KA8WTK
