[MRCA] MRCA Meet - Long Range Recon Patrol Target Brief Descriptions

Additional target briefing and travel information will be available at the Howell Building at 1400 EDT on Friday.   Long Range Recon Patrol Communications is scheduled to commence from targets locations approximately 1500 EDT.

Recon Patrol Target:   Big Pocono State Park

2000 ft elevation, scenic mountain top location
Plenty of room for several comm teams to spread out and 
set up VHF line of site back to West End Fairgrounds base
Few tall trees for antennas.  Plan to use masts and verticals.
20 road miles, or 10 miles point to point from base
Approx. 40 minute ride one way to target.
Depart at 1400 for 1500–1630 comm ops

Recon Patrol Target:   Lake Minsi, Bangor PA

Smaller site, good for one comm team or two teams 
working together on antenna / rig comparisons
24 road miles, or 12 miles point to point from base
Ridge two miles to the west raises up  1000 ft to block 
line of site and low angle radiation.  Good site to test NVIS 
techniques.  Small lake adjacent to grassy area and parking lot.  
Some trees available for antenna mounting.
Approx. 40 minute ride one way to target.

Recon Patrol Target:   Jacobsburg State Park

Smaller site, good for one comm team or two teams 
working together on antenna / rig comparisons
18 road miles, or 12 miles point to point from base
1000 ft ridge six miles to NW blocks line of site VHF comms.  
Good site to test NVIS techniques.  Open meadow, 
surrounded by trees adjacent to parking area.
Approx. 30 minute ride one way to target.
Depart at 1415 for 1500-1630 comm ops.

Recon Patrol Target:    Beltzville State Park

Very large and scenic site at a local reservoir.
17 road miles, 12 miles point to point from base.
A 100 ft. ridge about six miles east is between this location 
and base.  VHF comm back to base is possible depending 
on equipment.  Line of site comm to Big Pocono and Penns 
Peak should be easy. Plenty of room for several comm teams.  
Good sized trees are available for antenna mounting.
Approx. 30 minute ride one way from base.
Depart at 1415 for 1500-1630 comm ops.

Recon Patrol Target:    Penns Peak
    
This location is a scenic mountain top entertainment complex.  
There is a large parking lot and multiple access roads offering 
multiple operating venues.
18 road miles, 13 miles point to point from base.
Line of site to Gilbert Fairgrounds, Beltzville State Park and 
Big Pocono State Park.  Great location for 51 mHz ops. 
Room for several comm teams. 
Approx. 30 minute ride one way from base.
Depart at 1415 for 1500-1630 comm ops.

Recon Patrol Target:    Pocono Raceway
    
This location provides a vast expanse of parking lots and open 
space.  It is about 2000 ft. elevation.   There is a large parking 
lot and multiple access roads offering multiple operating venues. 
Plenty of room for antennas, but bring your own supports, no 
trees in the parking lots. 
Approx. 20 minute ride one way from base follow Rt. 115 north for about 10 miles
Depart at 1420 for 1500-1630 comm ops.
