Hi to all you TRC-77 / "Black Radio" operators out there. FWIW, and in
response to the recent question, I have the following freqs installed in my
TRC-77A and sets of these same TX frequencies in my GRC-109 and RS-6 field
kits:
Channel 1) 3550 SKCC Night Working Frequency
Channel 2) 3560 (Classified)
Channel 3) 7030 Current QRP Channel
Channel 4) 7040 Original QRP Channel
Channel 5) 7050 West Coast Agent Net
Channel 6) 7055 SKCC Day/Evening Working Frequency
These frequencies are also common enough to produce many contacts with
"regular" CW stations, especially the Straight Key Century Club (SKCC) ops
who lurk on 3550 and 7050-7055. Always good for interesting contacts.
I normally always have a receiver monitoring 7050 Kc and the GRC-109
transmitter in Warm Standby. If I am in the room, I will hear and then
answer any calls after its 15 second transmitter filament warmup. I'm
calling 7050 Kc the "West Coast Agent Net" working frequency. Several of
us around here have 7050 Kc crystals in our field sets and Maritime Coast
Station KSM (K6KPH) also guards 7050 Kc on Saturdays from 1700Z - 2300Z.
They reliably answer calls to them during this Comm Window. They are also
"playing" as agent "Home Station" for us and will take logistics requests
from us deep cover guys, Eg: Need an airdrop resupply pallet of Beer
Here....etc. Good fun.
I don't know how many others ever participated on Trish (Elaine's) "Agent
Net" in the past but I never heard anyone there. I had discussed the freq
selection with her several times in the past and encouraged her to keep it
going (and to not use frequencies that were not whole-integers so the
PRC-47 ops could also play). I don't know how many stations participated
in early crystal purchases; she had told me she was having trouble getting
interest going. A fun idea nonetheless.
The East Coast MRCA "Moose and Squirrel Net" guys are showing us how it's
done!
