It would be completely pointless and serve no useful purpose but I wonder what's the possibility of activating some of those old lead lined trunk cables that cover the Fort Miles facility? There were and maybe still are concrete pedestals with steel doors scattered around the complex that served as access points to the network and if any of the underground cables are still intact it would be interesting to see if any working pairs still exist. I know that back in the seventies and eighties they were still using the old trunks for pots service but imagine that those old trunks must have been deactivated by now? Although with construction and all the other things that happen over time it's fairly unlikely that the trunks can still be intact and may have been the victims of recycling. I know it's not radio but huge efforts and materials were devoted to installation of land line circuts over the years and the opportunity to play around with some old abandon part of the network can be interesting.
Trivia: Fort Salisbury, located on the Delaware Bay was active between the two world wars but closed before the Second World War and its armaments moved to Fort Miles. The Fire Control towers were located up and down the coast from the installation and linked by landline that I was told some parts still exist. Would be interesting to know what type of cable was used back then and if it was voice grade telephone or telegraph? Pictures of one of the old pedestals at:

Maybe they were the common circuts were things like TG-5 set were used?

While working on several EE-8 phones for a local group. I contacted Steve Hilsz for some parts. I am sure that most of you are aware of his web page but just in case here is the link.
