[MRCA] Workaround for fatal error and shutdown problem with Compuserve 7.0 and AOL 8.0

This is certainly OT for most of these lists but within the past year, I 
have seen evidence that there were a few list members still using one of the 
two mail managers.  If you are/were one of them and want to know a workaround
