The Moose and Squirrel Net, or as its formal name "The Moose and Squirrel Cold-War Clandestine and Long-Range-Reconnaissance-Patrol Net" is a great net, one that I have participated in several times and enjoy that they encourages you to get your radios out of the house and use them in the field. I have operated from my home QTH, outside the house with radios and the M-151 and several field locations and always enjoyed it, but my only complaint is with me being in Maryland I tend to be the furthest south station, with the rest of the participants being all northerners. Propagation not being favorable beyond a range that would include central or southern stations, I tried operating once from the eastern shore of Virginia and was not successful, was able to copy several of the Pennsylvania stations but not Net Control itself.
If there is an interest would propose trying a southern version of the Moose and Squirrel Net maybe at a later or earlier time on the same frequency? Possibly a "Foghorn Leghorn Net" on the same frequency or maybe another frequency that would support longer path propagation. 40 meters USB can be a possibility maybe using the 7.275 that the Central group uses at night? Daytime propagation on 40 has always been good for me up and down the coast. Rather than then trying to use 3.885 being that there is already a well-established "Old Military Radio Net " there and 80 meters in general is a mess the rest of the day. Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas about a southern or central operation?
