A Great week end and event. WX CAVOK or better with high cirrus
on Saturday. My host the 261st Coast Artillery Reenactment group gave me
an excellent location to set up. Band condx on 40 were fair but 80
meters during the afternoon was very quite. I had hoped to make at least
one CW contact using the sets radials and the whip antenna mounted on
the IN-127 insulator. My BC-474 has a simple mod for 40 meters and my
ops produced contacts down the coast. I have a mod for the BC-1306 for
40 (thanks Stew) but did not open the set up to activate it but have a
mod for the low end of 80 installed. Most popular items on my
display were the field phones and the BC-611's with the AN-190 loop
antenna. Friday evening we had a transmitter hunt for my miniature
3.885 transmitter box and I loaned out my BC-611 equipment to several
of the 261st members to practice their DF skills - and it created quite
a bit of interest.
Other WWII Radio equipment displays were scarce at the event, I saw one
BC-1000 on static display and several plastic BC-611 type units stuffed
with FRS radios.
