[MRCA] Ft. Miles Mission

Aloha Stew!  Just got back in the house from some early morning VLF reception experiments with my Wandell und Goltermann AT-611 Selective Level Meter that I put in the Tacoma powered from a  175 watt AC inverter.  The W u G only draws about 20 watts. I plan on using it this coming  weekend at Nearfest for doing mobile antenna efficiency comparisons  for the gang on a little test range I will set up in the parking fields.  Purpose of trip this AM was to look at noise floor levels when running the setup.  Were very low except for some spurs from the  inverter at a few freqs in the HF  spectrum.
For S&Gs went down to Stonington Point to see how VLF reception was down there.  Was amazingly good..NPM from Lualaulei on Oahu on 21.4 kHz was hitting -75 dBM with a 20 dB SNR, NAA from Cuter ME on 24 kHz  was hitting -50 dBM, using my 40 meter hamstick on the truck for an antenna.  This was just before sunrise at 0530 local. What was interesting is the enhancement  on signal levels being right down at the water...signal  levels in quiet locations away from the water were WAY down.  At a very quiet location in the woods several hundred yards away from the water near Barn Island a few miles from the Point,  NPM was basically inaudible at  a -95 dBM noise floor.  Stonington Point may have some enhancement for signals coming in from the west since from that location you have  the entire Long Island Sound in that direction.  I could actually hear some signal enhancement enroute to the Point on NPM every time I passed over or near salt water at some coves and marshes.

We should try a 40 meter sked with me down there mobile in the early AM here, you up late out there, I'll bet the GRC-9  in the Taco could make the haul, I have worked to ZL with the K1 at from down there at the 5 watt level.

 Hi Breck,
I listened for you on my GRC-9, but didn't hear you. Do ya think maybe I'm
out of range?
