Gentlemen,

A friend of mine (and military science professor) is doing a formal
dissertation (at the request of a Philippine government entity) on the
Philippine resistance movement during WWII. This would include both US
military as well as those of the PI. As part of this effort, he's asked
me about the radio sets they used and what the difficulties would have
been. We all have the "catalogs" of radio gear of WWII, but does
anyone know what would have been in the SW Pacific very early on, Navy
or Army? I suspect that it was gear from the mid to late 1930's? I
know there was a fair amount of indigenous and otherwise commercial gear
hauled out into the "woods" when the Japanese invasion came and a lot of
home-brew took place. We also know that some new, replacement gear did
make it in at various times, before MacArthur came back in. Those radio
sets are probably the easiest to identify, however. Of course, there's
the story in QST about the Navy ensign who was lauded for his radio work
in the bush during that occupation period. Any thoughts or other intel
would be appreciated. I do have the Signal Corps history series and
will be reviewing that data, also. TNX OM!
