An update from a previous post on the 106 I purchased at Gilbert this
fall. At this time I believe I have it repaired and working correctly.
The AMP had a burnt stator assembly and a bad load meter, straight
forward mechanical repairs which I like.
The RT which I thought was going to be easy turned out to be the most
problematic. It had 3 bad modules, 1A2, 1A4 and 1A9. An overdrive
condition of the RT got me off course for a while, had low AMP output power
as a result and thought the AMP was the problem when all the time it was
fine. The APC/PPC in the RT is critical to get the correct AMP output
power. If you ever try and adjust them, counter clockwise lowers the drive
and increases the AMP power. The adjustment on mine was fairly course and
took quite a few turns. This also threw me off as I saw no change with a
few turns and assumed something else was wrong. I discovered the over
drive condition by chance while operating the RT by itself with the watt
meter on the 10w setting. I saw it TX 2.5W when all it needed was 1MW, the
light came on as I recalled reading the 1MW drive in the TM. The module
replacements were a result of improper frequency mixing, some working some
not. Took a while to figure out which ones to replace, there are a lot of
combinations.
Thanks to the MRCA members who initially helped me check this out at the
show and later offered support. This will be installed in the M1010 for
road trips to the MRCA events.
The offending parts.
The completed set.
