[MRCA] 51 MHz contact this afternoon

Hi Z,

Well, like I said, I didn’t plan on talking to anyone, and it’s not really safe to reach into the back of the truck to play with the radio while driving down the highway. Since it’s a PRC-352, if tone is encoded on TX, the squelch setting will behave differently than carrier squelch. Just realizing that since Don was on a RT-1439. Maybe that’s why I heard him best? Or else he had more power. J

Maybe suitable band openings happen more often that I perceive. Do you often make DX contacts on 51 MHz? Just checking on Google Earth, it’s 555 miles from Oak Ridge to Kutztown. Not sure how far to Chickenland though...

Make an announcement and turn the squelch off or to a low setting and you might hear Chickenland.
We monitor 51.0 all the time while in the shop, hear sigs pop in and out all the time.

Hi Garret,
There are 5 or 6 of us that get on 51.0 every Sunday evening at 6:30 PM local. Kutztown, PA area. You had a good signal for 2 or 3 minutes then faded out. Rig here is a RT-1439 with a AM-7239 50W amp to a Comet GP-15 antenna. I beleive you said a Range Rover with a PRC-352 near Oak Ridge,TN. Good opening while it lasted! Hope to hear you again on the next opening. Maybe from the flea market in Dayton this week-end!
73,
Don, K3OP
Kutztown, PA
