[MRCA] field antenna

The end-fed half-wave also one of my favorites as. It's a full
half-wave antenna, so it radiates well. It requires no feed line, and
one support in the middle will pretty much do the trick for NVIS.
Because of the high feed-point impedance, the need for a ground is quite
minimal. I usually chuck out a 15-20 counterpoise lying on the ground.

I became aware of the concept from the "wire" antenna used with the
AN/GRC-9. The tuner in the Angry-9 was specifically set up to feed this
kind of antenna.

I tried this with my PRC-2000 back in 2010. (See:
http://www.mrca.ar88.net/Old%20Pages/Net/11-11-2010.html) The built in
tuner would tune the wire, but not load it properly, having been
designed for the very low radiation resistance of a 10-foot whip.
That's wen I discovered the Fuch's tuner that Zorro mentioned.

I've since discovered that my PRC-104 handles a half-wave very well.

End-Fed Half-Wave Antenna
for 75, 60, and 40 Meters

End-Fed Half-Wave

  * 120 feet of Commo (Field-Phone) Wire for 3.9 MHz.
  * Open Links for Higher Frequencies (piece of brass tubing and a
    banana plug across an insulator)
      o 40 Meters 65 Feet
      o 60 Meters 86.5 Feet
  * Insulator and Parachute Cord at Far End

My two cents,
Al
