Gang,
Pursuant to today's discussion about getting low-powered military AM
rigs on the air, let's explore the possibility of getting something
going on 75 meters in the evening.
I haven't been paying attention on the air lately, so please make
suggestions, and keep me straight.
*Time: *
From http://www.ips.gov.au/HF_Systems/6/6/2 it looks like 75 wakes up
around 02:00 - 03:00Z, that 9-10 PM EST, and remains usable past midnight.
This chart shows suggested HF frequencies centered on Washington, DC.
*Band Segment:*
Pardon my bad attitude, but I've felt for a long time that there's no
intelligent life between 3800 and 3999 KHz, and trying to operate QRP AM
there in the evening is nearly hopeless. How may people do we cut out
if we move to the "advanced" 3700-3799 KHz or "extra" 3600-3699 KHz
segments? While not a hectic as the general freq's, the advanced
segment seems pretty busy, and I'd vote for the "extra" band. There is
some recurring AM activity on 3705, but there's also a lot of net
activity on 3710 LSB.
*Crystals:*
Do we need to accommodate a lot of rock-bound rigs?
*Suggested MO:*
Maybe an advanced party, perhaps with reasonably loud signals, could
establish a beach head on any particular night, and post the frequency
in real time to this reflector.
What do you thing? When? Where? Who will be Net Control?
VY 73,
Al
