Hi Breck - Nice writeup on the Loopstick DF antenna - thanks for sharing
(and getting me motivated on yet another project like yours!  LOL)

Taking that one step further (or backwards), a standard AM transistor
loopstick radio can be used as well to DF BCB stations as we all know.....
It's actually a pretty handy and reasonably accurate Boonie Nav device.  A
quick post on my experiments with one included here:
