Glad to hear they will accomodate hams!

I find thet when I vacation with family and friends I have to balance the hobby with the family so I try to travel light and minimize setup time.

I'd recommend taking along an small ham rig such as a FT-859/897 or IC-706 with a small autotuner such as the LDG Z11 PRO.

By the way, there is a commercial HF Aeronautical Fly-away rig based on the IC-706. I think it costs about $4500.

Netherlands hence the PA/ prefix. Holland america is ham-friendly and they have information for hams to operate.

Where is the ship registered?

If you operate in international waters you will have to get a licence from the country of registration.

You would sign /MM 9martitime mobile) in international waters and /M (mobile) in territorial waters.

Have fun.

Hello friends,

Just a note to let you know I will be on the Westerdam cruise from 11/23 through 11/30. Ship sails out of Ft. Lauderdale and visits Grand Turk, San Juan PR, Saint Maarten, and the Bahamas. Since I have not obtained a license in these countries, I will only be able to operate in the waters of the US, PR (I believe) and international waters. But that should be plenty.

I will be bringing a Harris RF-3200ET fly away (they should call it a drag away). I have a long wire and ground clamp. I also have 4 radials if space permits. I have permission from the ship's master to operate (but not the ship's mistress). My call will be PA/W2HX/MM (in phone mode, do I say "slash?" or just "papa alpha whisky two..."?)

I plan to check 60M/CH3 for M&S, the HF PACK frequencies and try a little 20M as well. The radio is 125W but again, I have no idea what I will be able to do for an antenna and ground/radials.

I have never been on a cruise before let alone this one, so I have NO IDEA where I can even set up I also have no idea of any operating schedule since I will be with my family both nuclear and extended. There is a real possibility that I will not be able to operate at all due to space and many other reasons. So I guess the point of this is...listen out for me!
